This Standard specifies requirements for four types of unfilled aramid papers (hereafter referred to as "papers") :

– Type 1 : calendered 1) paper;

– Type 2 : calendered paper, with improved tearing resistance and conformability;

– Type 3 : uncalendered paper;

– Type 4 : calendered paper, with lower density for laminating.

Note 1) Calendering means the process of passing paper between metal rollers or between a metal roller and an elastic roller to produce glazed and smooth or transparent papers by pressurization, heating and friction and to adjust paper thickness.

Materials which conform to this Standard meet established levels of performance.

However, the selection of material by a user for a specific application should be based on the actual requirements necessary for adequate performance in that application and not based on this Standard alone.

WARNING Persons carrying out tests based on this Standard should be familiar with normal laboratory practice.

This Standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems, if any, associated with its use.

It is the responsibility of the user of this Standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices.
