IEC TR 62839-1:2014(E) specifies the PSR (product specific rules) for wires and cables used for communication, data, control and command. This PSR covers the use, installation and end-of-life stages and provides methodological precisions to PEP/PCR writing for "wires and cables and accessories products used for communication, data, control and command. PSR and general rules all together form the product category rules. Three categories of wires and cables are covered:
– communication and data wires and cables, which may have metal or optical fiber conductors;
– control and command wires and cables, which can have metal or fiber optical conductors;
– accessories.
This document only deals with the "wires and cables" products. "Accessories products are for further study. This document is primarily intended for:
– environment and/or product managers;
– LCA (life cycle assessment) experts in companies, in charge of PEP/PCR development;
– verifiers in charge of PEP/PCR conformity assessment in accordance with the defined rules.

IEC/TR 62222:2012 provides recommendations for the requirements and test methods to be specified for the fire performance of communication cables when installed in buildings. The recommendations relate to typical applications and installation practices for copper and optical cables in buildings. This TechnicalReport includes an assessment of the fire hazards presented by such installations, and describes fire scenarios that have been established and the appropriate cable fire performances to mitigate these hazards. ISO/IEC 14763-2 recommends installation methods which,together with this Technical Report, provide guidelines for improving safety during fire. The recommendations also take into account legislation and regulation applicable to the fire performance of cables, an assessment of known test methods and their ability to measure the recommended fire performance. Power cables are usually segregated from communication cables for electrical safety and installed differently so they have not been addressed in this Technical Report.

IEC TR 62222:2021 describes the test methods for various parameters relating to the reaction to fire properties of metallic and optical fibre communications cables. The parameters have particular importance for cables intended to be installed within buildings and other structures. This document also maps the test methods and associated limits applied to the fire hazards created by particular installation conditions and which can be referenced by other international, regional and national standards. For example, it is important that compliance with the requirements and recommendations for installation methods in ISO/IEC 14763-2 taking into consideration this document improve safety concerning fire.
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2012. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
– Scope rewritten to clarify and bring into line current understanding from other technical sources;
– Normative References updated to be in line with the most recent technical definitions and new additions;
– new additional terms and definitions added to Annex F since these are not used in the document;
– new inclusions to the list of abbreviated terms, some corrections;
– project reports are now in Annex E, for information only;
– Subclause about mitigation of fire hazards, about fire protection, updated with clearer information on standards plus updates where new standards have been published or amended;
– test methods, test methods conclusions and fire performance updated.

IEC/PAS 61156-1-4:2010(E) is covering exclusively four-pair data grade cables and is intended to provide a test method for the determination of the maximum attained conductor temperatures which occur due to the deployment of the IEEE protocol for PoE /PoEP. It gives as well the required background information about the thermodynamic behaviour of such bundled cables, if they are located in areas with restricted heat dissipation, a reality which occurs in every installation situation. However, only the basic principles are given, as the rigorous application and solution of these problems fall into the relevant cabling standards.

IEC 62807-1:2017 is applicable to hybrid cables intended to contain any combination of optical fibres, twisted pair/quad, coaxial and current-carrying electrical conductor elements as required under a common outer sheath.
This hybrid cable design is convenient for networks and customer premises wiring that transmit data, telecommunication and signalling services over optical fibre, metallic twisted pairs, and/or broadband data over coaxial units, and retains the option of supplying electrical current to remote equipment.
The cable element (e.g. coaxial, balanced and optical fibre) performance requirements and supported applications are as specified in the following standards series: IEC 61196, IEC 61156, and IEC 60794 respectively.
The various combinations of strength members, sheath materials, fibre arrangements, twisted pair/quad structure, cable shielding, and current carrying conductors will be specified in the following specifications:
– IEC 62807-2;
– IEC 62807-3.
In IEC 62807 (all parts), the current carrying conductors are not intended to be used as power mains supply. The specific use and safety regulation requirements are defined in the detailed and sectional cable specification.
