This part of IEC 61558<\/span> <\/span> deals with the safety of separating transformers<\/b> with high insulation level<\/b> and separating transformers<\/b> with output voltages<\/b> exceeding 1 000 V. Transformers<\/b> incorporating electronic circuits<\/b> are also covered by this standard.<\/p>\n

\n NOTE 1\n <\/div>\n

Safety includes electrical, thermal and mechanical aspects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Unless otherwise specified, from here onward, the term transformer<\/b> covers separating transformers with high insulation level<\/b> and separating transformers<\/b> with output voltages<\/b> exceeding 1 000 V a.c or 1 500 V d.c .<\/p>\n

This Part 2-10 is applicable to stationary<\/b> or portable<\/b>, single-phase or polyphase, air-cooled (natural or forced) independent<\/b> or associated dry-type transformers.<\/b> The windings may be encapsulated or non-encapsulated.<\/p>\n

This standard is applicable to transformers<\/b> and power supply<\/b> (linear) with internal operational frequencies<\/b> not exceeding 500 Hz.<\/p>\n

This standard used in combination with Part 2-16 for switch mode power supply units<\/b> ( SMPS<\/b>) is also applicable to power supplies with internal operational frequencies<\/b> higher than 500 Hz. Where the two requirements are in conflict the most severe take precedence.<\/p>\n

The rated supply voltage<\/b> does not exceed 1 000 V a.c., and the rated supply frequency<\/b> and the internal operating frequency<\/b> do not exceed 500 Hz.<\/p>\n

The rated output<\/b> does not exceed:<\/p>\n

  • \n

    25 kVA for single-phase transformers;<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    40 kVA for polyphase transformers.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    This Part 2-10 is applicable to transformers<\/b> without limitation of the rated output<\/b> subject to an agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer.<\/p>\n

    Where applicable the no-load output voltage<\/b> or the rated output voltage:<\/b><\/p>\n

      \n
    • \n

      does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c. for separating transformers with high insulation level;<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      does exceed 1 000 V a. c or 1 500 V d.c. and does not exceed 15 000 V a.c. or 15 000 V d.c. for separating transformer<\/b> with output voltage<\/b> exceed 1 000 V.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      This Part 2-10 is not applicable to:<\/p>\n

        \n
      • \n

        transformers<\/b> covered by IEC 60076\u201111<\/span> <\/span>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        neon transformers<\/b> covered by IEC 61050<\/span> <\/span> and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        power supplies<\/b> and converters for use with or in products according to IEC 61347\u20112\u201110<\/span> <\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        This Part 2-10 is not applicable to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input terminals and output terminals of the transformers<\/b>.<\/p>\n

        Transformers<\/b> covered by this Part 2-10 are used only in applications where double or reinforced insulation<\/b> between circuits is not required by the installation rules or by the end product standard.<\/p>\n

        \n NOTE 2\n <\/div>\n

        Normally, the transformers<\/b> are intended to be used with equipment to provide voltages different from the supply voltage<\/b> for the functional requirements of the equipment. The protection against electric shock can be provided (or completed) by other features of the equipment, such as the body<\/b>. Parts of output circuits<\/b> can be connected to the input circuits<\/b> or to protective earth<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

        This Part 2-10 is applicable to transformers<\/b> associated with specific equipment, to the extent decided upon by the relevant IEC technical committees.<\/p>\n

        \n NOTE 3\n <\/div>\n

        Attention is drawn to the following:<\/p>\n

          \n
        • \n

          for transformers<\/b> intended to be used in vehicles, on board ships, and aircraft, additional requirements (from other applicable standards, national rules, etc.) can be necessary;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          measures to protect the enclosure<\/b> and the components inside the enclosure<\/b> against external influences such as fungus, vermin, termites, solar-radiation, and icing can also be considered;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          the different conditions for transportation, storage, and operation of the can also be considered;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          additional requirements in accordance with other appropriate standards and national rules can be applicable to transformers<\/b> intended for use in special environments, such as tropical environment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n

          \n NOTE 4\n <\/div>\n

          Future technological development of transformers<\/b> can necessitate a need to increase the upper limit of the frequencies, until then this Part 2-10 can be used as a guidance document.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
